The first 80 seedlings of mixed tree species were planted in a high mountain village of Nisur (Bartang valley, Tajikistan) in November. Planting of seedlings was carried out by the environmental organization "Little Earth" within the project "Clean energy and women on the Roof of the world", which is implemented with the support of the US Forest Service.

Fifteen female participants of the project Clean Energy and Women on the Roof of the World from the most vulnerable families living in the highland village of Bopasor received sets of energy efficient equipment in late October 2018. Delivery and distribution of the equipment was handled by staff of the environmental organization the Little Earth with assistance from our local partner NGO "Oyandasoz". Every set consisted of a parabolic solar cooker, pressure pan and an energy saving stove for cooking and heating.

The tour of Lower Bartang-Khorog-Ishkashim was arranged on 24-27 September 2018 by the Environmental Organization 'The Little Earth' with support from the US Forestry Service.

On August 10-12, 2018, a three-day practical workshop on construction of solar water heaters was held in Bopasor village (Bartang valley, Tajikistan). The workshop was attended by 15 women from the local community representing the target group of the project "Clean Energy and Women on the Roof of the World". The event was organized by the environmental organization The Little Earth in cooperation with its local partner, NGO Oyandasoz and with support from the US Forestry Service.

In July 2018, the Environmental Organization 'The Little Earth' continued implementation of its project "Clean Energy and Women on the Roof of the World". First activities under the project supported by the US Forest Service took place in the highland village of Bopasor. The project is expected to reach 15 women from poor and vulnerable families living in the village.

How a solar cooker has facilitated the life of Gulisanjid's family

Gulisanjid Bekova lives with her family in the highland village of Roshorv in the Bartang valley. Severe climate (the village is located about 3,000 meters above the sea level) and harsh living conditions constantly put the villagers' endurance to a test. To cook meals and heat their houses Roshorv residents mostly use shrubs and scarce trees. All vegetation around the village was destroyed over the past few decades and the villagers are now facing a genuine fuel crisis. Fuel collectors now have to walk up to 10 kilometers to reach areas where teresken (a local shrub variety) can still be found.
