Empowering Young Women for Climate Action: Second Environmental Activism School Concludes in Dushanbe
On May 3, 2026, the Second Environmental Activism School successfully concluded in Dushanbe. Organized by Little Earth with the support of the international network Women Engage for a Common Future (WECF), the educational program brought together 15 motivated young women aged 18 to 25 from the capital and different regions of Tajikistan.
The three-day intensive program responded to the growing need to engage young people in addressing the country’s climate and environmental challenges. As the impacts of climate change, water and air pollution, biodiversity loss, and soil degradation become increasingly visible, the active participation and leadership of young women are more important than ever. The participants had an opportunity to learn from the women-experts about the different environmental issues and how they can persue their own green career.
A Space for Learning and Opportunity
“The Environmental Activism School for Girls is one of Little Earth’s flagship initiatives and a unique platform in Tajikistan,” says Anisa Abibulloeva, Project Coordinator at Little Earth. “Participants not only gain knowledge but also find a space for self-expression, dialogue, and mutual support. It is a place where young women can draw inspiration from female environmental leaders, meet like-minded peers, and discover new opportunities.”
The School’s program was designed to provide participants not only with theoretical knowledge about the climate crisis, gender equality, and civic activism, but also with practical tools they can apply in their work. Participants learned how to use social media and traditional media effectively and developed skills in creating short videos that can communicate important environmental messages to a wider audience.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to take part in the School. It was both productive and informative. I learned so much, met wonderful people, and gained a deeper understanding of environmental protection. I feel highly motivated to put my ideas into practice,” said Hidoyat from Khorog.
“At the School, I found like-minded people and the motivation to develop new environmental initiatives. The topics we discussed were highly relevant, and the skills we gained will be useful to me in the future. The whole experience was very positive, energetic, and engaging,” said Sumaya from Dushanbe.
“It was an intensive and inspiring program. Over the three days, I gained a great deal of new knowledge about climate change, environmental activism, working with the media, and opportunities available to young people. It was especially valuable to hear about the experiences of the experts. Thank you for inspiring us to keep taking action!” added Shohzadakhon from Khujand.
Investing in the Future
By providing participants with essential knowledge, practical skills, and opportunities to take initiative, the organizers are helping to foster a new generation of active and responsible citizens who can play an important role in addressing Tajikistan’s social and environmental challenges.
One of the key outcomes of the School will be the development of participants’ own environmental mini-projects. The organizers have announced that three of the most promising and innovative initiatives will soon be selected to receive support. This assistance will enable the young women to turn their ideas into action within their own communities and contribute directly to solving local environmental problems.
The School has become much more than a training program. It has created a community of like-minded young women who are ready to take responsibility, lead change, and contribute to a more sustainable future for Tajikistan and the planet.
