Decentralized Energy Solutions for Women’s Empowerment

Many mountain villages in Tajikistan face ongoing challenges due to limited access to electricity and energy resources. Women are disproportionately affected by these energy issues. They give birth in darkness, cook in smoky environments, and risk their safety while collecting firewood or dried manure from the mountainous terrain. The lack of access to modern energy services and cleaner technologies robs women of valuable time and resources that could be better spent on education, family care, or personal development.
In 2025, the Little Earth, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Center in Rome, will launch a new project aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of 20 families and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources in the mountain communities of Sayed and Hilmagz, located in the Romit district of Tajikistan. The project will specifically target 20 women, while around 100 family members will directly benefit from its implementation.

We are confident that its implementation will not only elevate the role and participation of women in the development of their communities but also unveil new opportunities for the target populations," says Anton Timoshenko, executive director of the Little Earth.
